Player Instructions
Creating an account with the correct username:
1. Go to lichess.org and click “Sign in” at the top right.
2. On the sign-in page, click “Register” on the right.
3. Create a username in the format “Schoolname-Lastname” (ex.: Blake-Wahl). It is very important that this format is used. This is how the Director will check results. Abbreviations of your school name are permitted, as long as every team member uses the same abbreviation. Use an email that you know the password to; you later mustconfirm that this is your email.
4. DO NOT play non-league games of any kind on your league account. This will make
it more difficult to confirm your results. If you’d like to use Lichess, you are free to make
more than one account.
Challenging other users against whom you will play your league game:
IF YOU ARE PLAYING WHITE:
1. Go to your Lichess homepage.
2. Hover over the “Community” tab at the top left and select “Players”.
3. In the “search” window at the top left, enter in the username of your opponent. It will be in the format described above: if you are playing Jackson Wahl from Blake, enter in “Blake-Wahl”. Click on the player’s name.
4. In your opponent’s name banner, click the icon with two swords crossed. (Note that this icon appears in two places. Click the lower one of the two.)
5. A window with the header “Challenge to a game” should appear. Set the variant to “Standard”, the time control to “real time”, the minutes per side to 30, the increment in seconds to 3, and the type of game to “casual”. Click the white king (because you are playing White).
6. Wait for your opponent to accept your challenge.
7. If your opponent has not accepted your challenge by 3:35pm, tell your coach and he or she will contact the Director. If your opponent has still not appeared by 3:45pm, you may be awarded a forfeit win.
IF YOU ARE PLAYING BLACK:
1. Wait for your opponent to follow the instructions above. When you see a challenge appear on the top right of your screen, click the check mark to begin the game.
2. If you have not received a challenge by 3:35pm, tell your coach and he or she will contact the Director. If your opponent has still not appeared by 3:45pm, you may be awarded a forfeit win.
